IMPACT STORY

Impacting lifes

At the University of Magdalena, our mission transcends academics to transform lives. Under Rector Pablo Vera's visionary leadership, this mission has flourished through “Talento Magdalena”, our flagship initiative supporting promising students from disadvantaged communities.

Jason, a young Unimagdalena student that comes from a remote village in the Magdalena region, exemplifies this impact. Despite his financial constraints, his dream of higher education was realized through “Talento Magdalena”, which provided him with a comprehensive scholarship covering tuition, daily meals, transportation, and living expenses. Jason’s journey, marked by determination and hard work, led him to excel in the program. Now nearing graduation with a degree in International Business, Jason has grown profoundly, becoming a community role model and proving that support can make dreams attainable regardless of background.

Jason's story is one of many. “Talento Magdalena,” under Vera's leadership, has empowered 2,377 students. These students, often from fishing and farming communities, have become engineers, doctors, and educators. Remarkably, 82% are the first in their families to graduate, and 92% come from families living on less than three dollars a day. Each success story underscores the transformative power of education and the belief in young talent. See Jason's story here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch]

Pablo Vera's leadership has ensured that more young people in the Magdalena region can break the cycle of poverty and contribute significantly to society. His leadership vision is to inspire, support, and transform lives through education, creating lasting community impact.
